Eilat Mountains Nature Reserves

As well as enjoying the beach and water-based fun, visitors can also take advantage of some unforgettable trips out. The Eilat Mountains Nature Reserve offers excellent hiking opportunities, and unusual geological rock formations including Shechoret Canyon, and Ein Netafim – a desert spring.

Located at the southernmost tip of Israel, Eilat is blessed with beautiful beaches and features a coral reef – making it one of the world’s diving hotspots and where you can get up close to exquisite tropical fish, and other fascinating sea life.

The beaches are also perfect for enjoying a relaxing break and are well equipped with welcome facilities, as well as snack bars and cafés.

You can also venture out the Ha-Makhtesh Ha-Gadol, or Big Crater, which was formed in the Negev Mountains, and is considered a rare geological phenomenon.

Some of the trails require hikers to have good orienteering skills, and detailed maps are available of the area.

If you only have tome to undertake one trail during a vacation to Eilat the Red Canyon is highly recommended which involves climbing up and down ladders.

The Reserve is a large mountain range situated on both sides of the Red Sea, just north of Eilat.

The unique extreme habitats found here include the mountains themselves, desert, fields, wadis, salt pans and the Red Sea make this a natural oasis for many species of animals including a wide variety of birds.

Visitors can watch migrating birds including eagles, kites, buzzards and sparrow hawks in flight from observation points – with spring the ideal time to come
